ITR refund may be delayed-

There may be a delay in getting an income tax refund this year as the department is closely examining all the information filed this time. This means that your refund may take longer than usual to process. However, in case of a late refund, you can get more interest on your money.

The Income Tax Department is investigating which form the taxpayers have filled. Forms like ITR-1 or ITR-4 are usually processed in less time compared to ITR-2 or ITR-3 forms. Apart from this, strict checking is being done by the department in case of more refund claims.

More interest will be given if the refund is delayed-
Under section 244A of the Income Tax Act, if there is a delay in the tax refund, the government pays interest at the rate of 0.5 percent per month. This interest is calculated from the date when the return was filed or the assessment year ended. However, this interest is payable only if the refund amount is more than 10% of the total tax.
