Bitchat: Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey has launched his new messaging app Bitchat for iPhone users. This app is now available for download on the Apple App Store. The most important thing is that there is no need for internet to use Bitchat.
How does Bitchat work?
Bitchat uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) Mesh Networking technology instead of the internet or mobile data. This means that it creates a local network between nearby devices (within a range of about 30 meters). As users move, their phone itself acts as a "message relay" so that messages can be transmitted over long distances without the internet.
No registration, no phone number
In this app, the user does not have to sign up, give a phone number or email ID. There is not even a central server that saves the messages. All messages are stored only on the user's device and get deleted automatically after some time. Bitchat is completely end-to-end encrypted, which makes chatting more secure.
Will be helpful in emergency and internet shutdown
Because this app is independent of the internet, it can be very useful in situations where the internet is down or the network is not available, such as in a disaster, remote areas or internet shutdown imposed by the government.
Warning also issued regarding security
Although this app claims to be secure, Jack Dorsey himself has given a warning on its GitHub page. It is written that Bitchat has not yet passed any external security audit and it may have potential vulnerabilities. Therefore, do not use it for production right now and do not completely rely on its security until it is fully tested.
