When we hear the name Virat Kohli, terms like great, icon, legend and GOAT circle out minds. Be it Tests, ODIs or T20Is, the man’s bat could work magic. He has retired from the oldest and shortest format, but is still going strong in the 50-over version. Now, in the twilight of his career, we wonder how fortunate we were to see him play.
Kohli was born on November 5, 1988. He turns 37 today. The right-hander has been around since 2008 and is trying his best to be available for the 2027 ODI World Cup along with Rohit Sharma. But whether he makes it or not, his legacy as a modern legend of the game is set.

Virat Kohli Is a Man of Records
Kohli will maybe play for another couple of years or till 2028 maximum. His record is already so impressive, it will be interesting to see where he finishes off. Having set that, while he could break a few more world records, he already has many to his name. Most may not be broken in this lifetime.
We have been able to narrow down 10 such world records on Kohli’s 37th birthday that prove he is the ‘King’ of cricket. Want to know what they are?
Let’s have a look. Here we go:

With 51 ODI 100s to his name, Kohli is on top of the world. No active player is anywhere close to him and this record is here to stay for some time.
2) Most 50+ Scores in ODI Run Chases © X/ICC
A total of 70 scores in excess of 50 while chasing in ODIs is ample proof of why Kohli is called the 'Chase Master'. While he is at the crease, India are always at ease about reaching any target.
3) Fastest to 8,000 ODI Runs © X/ICC
Kohli reached this milestone in 175 innings and till date remains the quickest to have done so.
4) Fastest to 9,000 ODI runs © X/ICC
It took Kohli just another 19 innings to reach the next milestone as he breached the 9000-run mark in a mere 194 innings. It shows his amazing consistency.
5) Fastest to 10,000 ODI runs © X/ICC
Kohli smashed Sachin Tendulkar’s record when he set the new record for most ODI 100s but he had done it earlier as well when he became the fastest to 10,000 ODI runs. It took him just 205 innings.
6) Fastest to 11,000 ODI runs © X/ICC
It took 222 innings for Kohli to enter the 11,000-run club in the 50-over format. The man just loves piling on the runs and world records are broken at will.

8) Fastest to 13,000 ODI runs © X/ICC
It took longer by Kohli’s standards to go from 12,000 to 13,000 runs but he was still the fastest. He did it in 267 innings.
9) Fastest to 14,000 ODI runs © X/ICC
It was business as usual as Kohli became only the third player to enter the 14,000-run club and he did it in 287 innings, the least number by any player.

In the 2023 ODI World Cup, Kohli slammed a total of 765 runs. That remains the highest by any player in a single edition and pretty much displays the class of the Indian batter.
