Cabinet clears 65-m wide road around Bengaluru, targets completion in two years

Bengaluru: The State Cabinet on Thursday cleared the 117-km Bengaluru Business Corridor (BBC) project around Bengaluru city, Deputy CM DK Shivakumar said. The project will take two years for completion.

The proposed corridor will originate and terminate at Tumakuru road. About 73 km of this road will be in North Bengaluru and the rest in South Bengaluru,” he said, adding that the project would reduce the congestion in the city by 40%.

The project was originally estimated to cost Rs 27,000 crore, but the government would be able to complete at less than Rs 10,000 crore with landowners being compensated with developed land, the Dy CM said.

The initial notification was for a road width of 100 meters, but the government has decided to keep the road width at 65 meters which is as wide as the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway. It will have a provision for 5 meters for a metro project in the future. The remaining 35 meter of land will be given back to farmers as compensation, the Dy CM added.

The government will offer twice the market value of land as compensation to landowners. If landowners do not want commercial land, the government will compensate them with 40% of developed land in BDA layouts, Shivakumar said.

If someone refuses to part with the land, the government will go ahead with land acquisition by parking the deposit money in court. The government will not denotify any parcel of land at any cost.
