New Delhi: Japan-based Apple supplier Murata has started packaging and shipping multilayer ceramic capacitors from a facility in Chennai, Tamil Nadu minister of industries TRB Rajaa said Friday.
The facility, housed at the OneHub Chennai Industrial Park, is the first for the company in India. The Japanese component maker is a supplier of capacitors to Apple iPhones, as well as to other smartphone makers including Samsung.
However, it is not immediately clear whether the Chennai facility will be supplying components to Apple's manufacturers in India, which include Foxconn (Hon Hai) and Tata Electronics.
"A global leader in advanced electronic components, with a 40% share in multilayer ceramic capacitors, whose components power smartphones in our pockets to NASA's Mars helicopter - they are right here in Tamil Nadu," Rajaa posted on X.
The component supplier has moved to a 3,500 sqm facility where it will package and ship multilayer ceramic capacitors to smartphone, EV and industrial machines manufacturers.
