A devastating incident occurred during the filming of actor Arya’s upcoming project helmed by director Pa. Ranjith, as veteran stunt performer S.M. Raju lost his life while executing a dangerous car-toppling sequence. The fatal mishap took place on the morning of Sunday, July 13, shaking the Tamil film industry and the stunt community.

Actor Vishal, who had collaborated with Raju on many action films over the years, expressed deep sorrow over the loss. Through a touching message shared on X (formerly Twitter), he reflected on Raju’s immense contributions and courage. Vishal acknowledged the close working relationship they shared, recalling how Raju had always stepped up to perform some of the most hazardous stunts with remarkable dedication. He also promised to support Raju’s family not just with words, but with concrete action, stressing his moral responsibility as a fellow member of the film fraternity.

"I have known Raju for so many years, and he has performed so many risky stunts in my films time and time again, as he is such a brave person. My deepest condolences, and may his soul rest in peace. May God give more strength to his family for their grave loss. Not just this tweet but will definitely be there for his family’s future, being from the same film industry and also for his contribution to so many films..." he wrote on X

By tagging both Arya and director Pa. Ranjith, Vishal drew attention to the significant impact the tragedy has had on the film community. His message served as both a personal tribute and a public call to honour Raju's commitment to his craft. It also highlighted the dangers faced by stunt professionals, who often remain unsung despite playing a crucial role in bringing cinematic action to life.

Other notable voices from the industry also paid homage. Renowned stunt choreographer Stunt Silva took to Instagram to grieve the loss of Raju, describing him as one of the finest experts in executing car-based stunts. He emphasized that Raju’s death is not only a personal loss but also a blow to the entire stunt union and Indian cinema.

S.M. Raju, known for his fearless attitude and extensive experience in high-risk stunts, had been part of countless action-packed sequences in Tamil cinema. On this tragic day, he was attempting a particularly risky maneuver involving a tumbling car when the situation spiraled out of control. Despite immediate efforts to manage the aftermath, Raju succumbed to the injuries sustained during the stunt.

Raju had contributed to numerous blockbuster films throughout his career, earning respect and admiration for his bravery and skill. Meanwhile, the film that was being shot, reportedly the sequel to the critically acclaimed Sarpatta Parambarai, is slated for release in 2026. The project, backed by high anticipation from fans, now bears the shadow of a tragic loss that will be hard to forget.
