What Not to Do on Ekadashi Days: Ekadashi has special significance in Sanatan Dharma. This day is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. On this day, Satvik life is followed, and God is worshipped. Fasting on this day, being restrained in mind, speech, and action, and meditating and bhajan are considered to be the main means. However, Ekadashi is not limited to fasting only. It is equally important to avoid certain things on this day. Whether one fasts or not, following these rules gives the virtue of Ekadashi.

What to avoid on Ekadashi
1. Do not consume rice
It is believed that eating rice on Ekadashi affects the energy of the fast. From a religious point of view, rice contains such waves on that day that can reduce the effect of fasting.
2. Stay away from non-vegetarian food and alcohol
Consumption of tamasic substances like meat, fish, or alcohol is prohibited on this day. It not only makes the body heavy, but also disturbs concentration in meditation and worship.
3. Avoid lying and quarrels
Purity of mind and speech is considered very important on Ekadashi. Lying, quarreling, or behaving bitterly with someone can harm the sanctity of the fast.
4. Do not get angry
Anger takes away the peace of mind. It is advisable to remain calm and restrained on this day so that positive energy remains.
5. Do not pluck Tulsi leaves
It is also said that Tulsi Mata herself fasts on Ekadashi. Therefore, Tulsi leaves should not be plucked on this day.
6. Do not sleep during the day
Sleeping during the day is considered forbidden on this day. By doing this, the fruit of the fast is halved. Time should be spent in meditation, chanting and devotion throughout the day.
7. Avoid ordinary salt
If you are fasting, then use rock salt instead of ordinary salt. This maintains the sanctity of the fast.
8. Do not wear black clothes
According to some beliefs, black clothes are considered a symbol of negative energy. Therefore, it is better to wear light or bright coloured clothes on this day.
9. Keep the house clean
Cleanliness brings positivity. Take special care of the cleanliness of the house on this day and worship in a pure environment.

10. Stay away from bad company and habits
Gambling, betting or any wrong activities should be avoided on this day. Ekadashi is a day of self-restraint and connecting with God, so it is important to keep the mind pure and focused.
