Navi Mumbai: The Ulwe police have arrested a 30-year-old man for repeatedly raping a woman under the false promise of marriage, forcing her to undergo an abortion, and filming the aftermath without her consent.
The accused, identified as Mohit Vijendra Singh, is also alleged to have threatened the survivor to keep her from approaching the police. A second accused, who is believed to have molested the woman, is currently absconding.
According to police officials, the incident began in February when Singh developed a relationship with the woman, a resident of Ulwe, and lured her with the promise of marriage. He allegedly raped her multiple times against her will.
When she became pregnant, Singh procured abortion pills from a medical store and forced her to terminate the pregnancy. He then reportedly captured photos and videos of the bleeding on his mobile phone.
Even after the abortion, Singh continued to sexually assault the woman, claiming he still intended to marry her. The woman approached the police station on July 14 to file a complaint, but Singh allegedly intercepted her, apologized, and took her back home—only to assault her again later that day.
The next day, July 15, Singh allegedly created a joint affidavit declaring them married and used it to threaten the woman, saying she could no longer press charges against him. He subsequently cut off all communication with her.
In her statement, the woman further alleged that Singh’s friend, Akash Yadav, molested her while she was staying at Singh’s house. Yadav reportedly touched her inappropriately and forcibly kissed her.
