High Blood Pressure Symptoms: High blood pressure has become a common but dangerous disease in today's times. It damages the body from the inside slowly and without any special symptoms. Often, people ignore it because initially, no major effect is felt. But if blood pressure is not controlled for a long time, it affects the heart, brain, eyes, kidneys, and the entire body. Let us know what happens inside the body when there is high blood pressure.

1. Damage to the arteries

When blood pressure remains high, it puts more pressure on the walls of our arteries. Gradually, small cuts or breaks start appearing on the walls of the arteries. Fat and cholesterol start accumulating at these places, which is called plaque. This narrows the arteries and reduces blood flow. This condition increases the risk of heart attack and stroke.

2. Effects on the brain and risk of stroke

High blood pressure also affects the nerves of the brain. Due to constant pressure, a vein can burst or get blocked. When the flow of blood to the brain stops, a stroke can occur. Apart from this, due to high blood pressure for a long time, the small nerves of the brain become weak. This can cause problems like loss of memory, reduced thinking ability and dementia.

3. Damage to the eyes

Our eyes have very thin and delicate blood vessels. High blood pressure increases the pressure on these vessels. The vessels can burst, become inflamed or have reduced blood flow. This can result in blurred vision, eye swelling or, in severe cases, permanent loss of vision.

4. Effect on the heart

In high blood pressure, the heart has to work harder than normal to pump blood to the entire body. Due to this, the heart muscles start becoming thick and hard, which is called left ventricular hypertrophy. In the beginning, the heart seems strong but gradually it starts becoming weak and is unable to pump blood properly. This can result in heart failure.

5. Kidney damage

The job of the kidney is to remove toxins and excess water from the body. But when blood pressure remains high continuously, the blood cells of the kidney also start getting damaged. This reduces the filtering capacity of the kidney. In the long run, high blood pressure can even lead to kidney failure.

High blood pressure is a "silent killer" because it slowly damages every part of the body without even being detected. Therefore, one should get his blood pressure checked from time to time. If the doctor has prescribed medicine, then it should be taken regularly. Also, a balanced diet, regular exercise, low salt intake and reducing stress are important to control blood pressure.
