Harry Kane insists "everyone is entitled to their opinion" as he defended his decision to join Bayern Munich and turn his back on the Premier League goalscoring record with England great Michael Owen claiming he is "nuts".
The striker is into his third year in the Bundesliga after leaving Tottenham in the summer of 2023. He had spent his entire career in north London, enjoying huge individual success, but without claiming a trophy.
Since moving to Bayern he's been able to claim the first major honours of his career, landing the Bundesliga last term, whilst also ensuring he is playing in the Champions League annually. Owen though was one of many to criticise Kane when he left England given he was on 213 Premier League goals - but him just 48 away from breaking Alan Shearer's historic tally.
Owen also claimed moving to Bayern and winning honours was nothing to shout about given the rate at which they win the league. The ex-Liverpool star suggesting "there's no great achievement in that" - but Kane has bit back.
He said: "I heard it. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I've spent a bit of time with him but don't know him well. Obviously, he is a Premier League great and an England great as well, so I'll respect him as a person, but ultimately as he will know, everyone's career is different - everyone's decisions and motivations are different.

"I know he was insinuating I went just for the trophy, but it was to be at the highest level for as long as possible, and I'm really happy in that sense of playing big games, title runs, big Champions League matches, Club World Cup quarter-final. I feel I'm improving as a player, I'm pushing my limits as a player in terms of goalscoring. It's hard not to hear things these days, but the decisions are best for me and I'm really happy that I made that decision and very happy at Bayern Munich now."
Kane has set numerous records since moving to Germany and has continued to prove himself as one of Europe's marquee No 9s. He had never challenged himself outside the Tottenham environment but has scored 91 times in 100 games for Bayern.

Tottenham are understood to have inserted a buy-back clause should the striker ever decide to leave Bayern and make a return to England's top flight. There is an expectation that Kane will return but at 32 he still has time on his side should Shearer's record be on his mind.
However he's maintained that his sole focus is on remaining with Bayern despite heading towards the final year of his deal at the Allianz Arena. "I’ve really enjoyed my time here and I’m not thinking about being anywhere else," he said recently.
