Netflix star and singer reveals what surprised her most about 'legend' Jessica Chastain

She may be making waves in the country music scene, but one star is also ready to make her mark on the small screen. Carter Faith, who released her highly anticipated debut album Cherry Valley on Friday, is set to take on a lead role in Netflix's Heartland.

The mystery thriller sees the 25-year-old star alongside Hollywood icon Jessica Chastainand John Hawkes. She takes on the part a missing singer whose disappearance her aunt, Misty Jones (Chastain), investigates.

Throughout the film Chastain's character is forced to grapple with her own past and Nashville’s seedy underbelly, and her search uncovers a murky side of Nashville where no one, including Misty, is who they seem.

Speaking exclusively to the Mirror, Faith revealed it had been a dream to work alongside Chastain as filming got underway this month. "I mean she's a legend, you know?" Faith gushed.

"It's cool just being around someone you've always seen on the screen. But then seeing them as a real person is a totally different thing. And then seeing her work and her element is a totally different thing. So it's pretty surreal."

When asked about any surprising traits Chastain has on set, Faith added: "One thing that surprised me, well maybe not surprised, but is interesting, is that on set everyone is so smart.

"Of course they're all smart because they're making these movies, but everyone knows exactly what they're trying to get done in their own world. Like the lighting world or the costume world, the makeup world, they all have this vision for the movie.

"They're not just people putting makeup on, or someone running their lines. We are all in this group effort to create this beautiful piece of art, and that is a little different than my career, because a lot of my career is focused on just me and my art. So getting to be part of something that's like, kind of like a team is very special."

She explained she was drawn to the role to feature alongside Chastain, but also because she relates to the character being a country singer. And it's that country vibe away from the cameras that is also winning Faith rave reviews.

Speaking to use before the recent release of Cherry Valley, she said she felt like she had been working towards the release for "so long". "So many people in my life have been working at it too," she said.

"It's a country record at heart, I would say. But there's a lot of other influences there, like a lot of 70s music. I love Lana Del Rey, a lot of her influence and what she's into. The Beach Boys too. I love Nancy Sinatra.

"So there's a lot of different influences, but I think, you know, it has really fresh, modern country lyrics, I would say."

Revealing there is "a lot of drama" in the album, Faith said fans can expect songs that have come from her heart. "When I was putting the album together, I was really leaning on my influences and what I wanted these songs to turn into and sound like because of the music that I love.

"I feel like that's the foundation for me. It's important to me for it to be honest and authentic."

And Faith promised this is only the start for her in both fields - as well as setting her sights on future projects such as Broadway.
