Lucknow: In Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, a joint team of the CID and Chinhat police station has uncovered a major fraud. The joint team has arrested a cunning fraudster who posed as a fake Gujarat cadre IAS and IPS officer and lured people with job promises. The accused has so far defrauded approximately 150 people of approximately ₹80 crore by luring them with promises of government jobs.

The arrested accused has been identified as Dr. Vivek Mishra, alias Vivek Anand Mishra, a resident of Jharkhand. Police arrested him near the bus station near Kamta Square in Lucknow. Legal proceedings are underway after the accused is taken into custody. On July 24, 2019, Chinhat resident and Supreme Court advocate Dr. Ashutosh Mishra filed a report in this case at Chinhat police station.

They reported that a man named Vivek Mishra, posing as a Gujarat cadre IAS or IPS officer, duped people with false promises of jobs and extorted large sums of money from them. The accused had duped approximately 150 people of approximately ₹80 crore by promising them jobs in government departments. Following the complaint, the investigation was initially assigned to the Economic Offences Wing (EOW). Later, on government orders, the investigation was transferred to the CBI-CID.

The case is being investigated by CBI Investigating Officer Ramesh Chandra Tiwari. According to the police, Vivek contacted people claiming to be a secretary in the Gujarat government. Furthermore, he also claimed his sisters were Gujarat cadre IPS officers to demonstrate his credentials. The accused had created several fake accounts on social media and specifically targeted young women from modest families.

He would propose marriage to young women, develop close relationships with their families, and then extort large sums of money from them under the pretense of getting them jobs. Complainant Ashutosh Mishra, with the help of four of his juniors, launched an investigation to uncover the truth about the accused. The investigation revealed that Vivek had defrauded more than 150 people and embezzled approximately 80 crore rupees. The accused had also issued fake appointment letters after taking lakhs of rupees from people in the name of jobs.

Ashutosh said he had talked to the accused about government jobs for his juniors. Vivek had extorted around ₹4.5 lakh from some by promising them jobs as public relations officers in the Gujarat government and Deputy ACP jobs from others through the sports quota. Police arrested the accused and filed a case against him under relevant sections. Police said they are taking action against the accused under sections 506, 471, 467, 468, and 420 of the Indian Penal Code. The role of other possible accomplices in the case is also under investigation.
