
Crystal Palace's Premier League match against Liverpool was suspended for almost seven minutes on Saturday afternoon due to a medical emergency in the crowd at Selhurst Park. With the Reds having a free-kick on the edge of the Palace box in the 13th minute after Ryan Gravenberch was fouled, Dominik Szoboszlai and Daniel Munoz spotted the incident in the home end and alerted medical staff from both clubs.
Staff members rushed in to support the ailing fan as referee Chris Kavanagh paused the match. The match was suspended until the incident was dealt with. Crystal Palace wrote on X: "There has been a break in play due to an incident in the crowd. Our thoughts are with all those involved."
Applause rang around Selhurst Park as the medical staff walked back across the pitch after the incident had been dealt with.. Commentators reported that the supporter in question appeared fine as Kavanagh blew the whistle for play to resume.
Security staff, medics and stewards remained around the scene of the incident as the game carried on. It currently remains unclear the nature of the medical emergency.
Once the match resumed, Mohamed Salah's free-kick struck the wall. The Eagles were already leading 1-0 at that point thanks to Ismaila Sarr's ninth-minute opening goal in south London.
FA Cup winners Palace put the Premier League champions under enormous pressure in the first half-an-hour with Alisson forced to make several excellents saves to prevent the hosts from improving their lead.
In the 37th minute, there was a second separate incident as Alisson signalled to medical staff about an issue in the stand behind his goal but Kavanagh did not stop play on that occasion. There was later 10 additional minutes of first-half stoppage time after the lengthy interruption.
