Did Billy the Kid have any children in real life?

Billy the Kid season three has just launched on MGM+ and the Western drama witnesses Tom Blyth reprising his role as the titular character for the final time.

Season three unfolds in the aftermath of the Lincoln County War, with Billy remaining a fugitive and Sheriff Pat Garrett (Alex Roe) determined to bring him in, dead or alive.

Billy faces the chance to build a future with Dulcinea (Nuria Vega), the woman he loves, and viewers are eager to discover whether the actual Henry McCarty fathered any offspring.

Billy the Kid was an American outlaw connected to nine killings and renowned for his role in New Mexico's Lincoln County War.

Left without parents at 15, his infamy escalated in December 1880 when press reports detailed his criminal activities - he would have been 20 at that point.

His existence was remarkably brief as he perished after Garrett shot him in July 1881, aged merely 21.

Regarding his personal life, the genuine Billy the Kid had no documented offspring.

Whilst no one can say with certainty whether he fathered a child, no children have ever been verified.

He was recognised for maintaining relationships with several women, including Paulita Maxwell, who allegedly carried his child when he met his end.

Lincoln County historian Drew Gomber revealed to True West Magazine: "Paulita had a daughter, but the date of her birth has always been in doubt, and she died at about 16.

"Whether or not Paulita had Billy's kid, I don't know, but I do believe she was pregnant at the time of Billy the Kid's death."

In the series, Dulcinea announced her pregnancy, a revelation that soon became a significant concern.

For Billy, his legacy is on the line, and the urge to survive for his family's sake intensifies.
