A pretty little village known for its elegant Georgian architecture, boutique shops and art galleries has been named one of the best in the country. The list compiled by Which? has crowned Burnham Market on the top spot. The village is affectionately nicknamed "Chelsea-on-Sea" due to its popularity with London weekenders.
Nestled just moments from the breathtaking North Norfolk coastline, Burnham Market offers a delightful blend of coastal charm and village elegance. Surrounded by expansive beaches, scenic walking trails, and the tranquil beauty of open countryside, it's a haven for those seeking both relaxation and refinement. Not only this, but the village is also constantly named among the poshest in the UK.

During the survey, Which? compiled a list of the most highly rated inland towns and villages based on the opinions of more than 9,000 members. Burnham Market was ranked alongside Wells in Somerset and Avebury in Wiltshire for "packing a lot into a small space".
A favourite retreat for affluent Londoners and celebrities such as Stephen Fry and Amanda Holden, this charming coastal destination has earned a 61 percent destination score, reflecting its enduring appeal.
While it may not boast a wealth of tourist attractions-evidenced by its modest one-star rating in that category-it more than makes up for it with its serene beauty and tranquil atmosphere.
The area received three stars for its scenery, overall attractiveness, and peacefulness, making it an ideal spot for those seeking a quiet escape rather than a bustling itinerary. Its understated charm continues to draw visitors who value relaxation and refined simplicity.
The picturesque village offers a delightful blend of culinary and cultural experiences, making it a vibrant hub for both locals and visitors. Its dining scene features acclaimed restaurants and welcoming pubs such as the Hoste Arms and The Nelson, known for their character and charm.
One of the visitors wrote a review of The Nelson on TripAdvisor forum: "We went there yesterday a party of 13 of us. We had a fabulous meal. The chef came and introduced himself, which was a lovely gesture. The food was plentiful, piping hot and well presented. Will definitely go again when in the area. Thank you to all the lovely staff."
Beyond food and drink, the village boasts a rich tapestry of local businesses, from a traditional post office and butcher to a hardware store and fish shop.
What truly sets it apart, though, is its collection of around 30 distinctive independent and specialist shops including artisanal delis, boutique beauty salons, and galleries showcasing coastal-inspired paintings, prints, and unique artworks.
