Prince Harry has been left "despondent, but not surprised" following the use of his mother's name in the outcry over wife Meghan Markle's trip to Paris. Last week, The Duchess of Sussex, 44,stepped out at Paris Fashion Week solo.
After attending the Balenciaga show and afterparty, the duchess shared a video on Instagram of her feet up on a chair in a car as she passed Paris landmarks including the Pont de l'Alma bridge, which leads to the Pont de l'Alma tunnel - the same tunnel Harry's mum Princess Diana died in August 1997. This led to outrage by royal fans, with many dubbing the move insensitive.
However, while it is believed Prince Harry, 41, may have been "horrified" at his wife's video, it has now been reported that he is actually "upset" that people have used the video to bring up his mum's name and criticise Meghan, who reportedly was not even aware she was close to the tunnel where Diana died.
A friend of the couple told The Mail on Sunday: "Harry was left hurt and upset. Diana's death was used as a stick to beat his wife with. [Meghan] did not even pass close to the tunnel. The whole thing is a joke, but not a very funny one for Harry. He was left feeling hurt, but the depressing thing is he wasn't even that surprised. He was more despondent than shocked."
