There's one thing you can always count on when Victoria Beckham steps into royal company - she'll be wearing navy. The fashion designer and former Spice Girl brought her signature poise to Windsor Castle on Tuesday to support husband David Beckham as he received his long-awaited knighthood from King Charles, and once again, she turned to her fail-safe shade.
Her elegant navy midi dress featured sculpted shoulders, struck the perfect balance between modern structure and classic sophistication. Though Victoria hasn't confirmed the designer, it's almost certainly a bespoke creation from her Victoria Beckham label.
A similar piece from her collection retails for around £1,290. It's no coincidence that Victoria, 51, chooses navy for royal occasions as she's worn the colour at almost every major royal event she's attended.
From Prince William and Princess Kate's wedding in 2011 to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's ceremony in 2018, and most recently at last year's state banquet for the Emir of Qatar, the designer has made navy her royal uniform.
So what's the secret behind her devotion to this one hue? Celebrity stylist Ciara Russell believes Victoria's repeated use of navy is more than just a fashion choice; it's a reflection of her confidence, taste and respect for royal protocol.
"Navy just feels so her. It's refined, timeless and never trying too hard - exactly how Victoria dresses. When she's at royal events, she always manages to look respectful yet effortlessly chic, and navy gives her that balance. It's a colour that commands attention quietly, and that's what makes it so powerful on her," shared Ciara.
The expert explained that beyond style, navy carries symbolic meaning. Something that makes it especially fitting for royal engagements.
She added that the hue "is one of those colours that always feels sophisticated. It symbolises confidence, trust and elegance - all the things you'd want to convey at a formal occasion."
When you are among royal company, it is important not to overshadow them. Ciara continued: "It's also a very polite shade; it doesn't overpower a room but still looks beautifully put together.
For royal settings, it's the perfect way to show respect without losing that sense of fashion and individuality."
For Victoria, navy also perfectly complements the DNA of her fashion brand.
Ciara suggested why she veers away from shades of black. "Black can sometimes feel a bit harsh or heavy, whereas navy keeps things softer and more modern. It's elegant but still fashion-forward - that's such a Victoria balance."
While Princess Kate is another royal known for her love of navy, famously wearing it for her engagement announcement, Ciara explained the two women simply share an appreciation for the shade's timeless appeal.
"I think both Victoria and Kate understand what navy represents - it's chic, reliable and always photographs beautifully.
They both know how to dress for the occasion, and navy has become a shared symbol of British elegance," she added.
Ultimately, Ciara said that Victoria's unwavering commitment to navy is less about repetition and more about self-assured consistency.
