NEW DELHI: Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra has likened the ongoing migrant verification drive in Gurugram in BJP-ruled Haryana to "Nazi Germany."
The drive is being conducted to identify Bangladeshis and Rohingyas living illegally in the city. A large number of workers affected by the exercise are from the TMC MP's home state, West Bengal.
"In many cases, we, the state (West Bengal) government only come to know when their families call us and say that they've been picked up. So this is completely like Nazi Germany, where on the basis of linguistic identity people are being identified and denied due process of law and it's reverse owners," Moitra told The Times of India's Digital Videos head, Aditi Prasad.
She added that 99 per cent Gurugram residents are "migrants" as a migrant is anyone who is out of their home state in search of work.
